Andropogon gerardii 'Red October' Big Blue Stem Flower Color Red Flower Shape and Structure Notes (Flower). 3-part finger-like flower clusters to 4 inches long. Flower Size Less than 1-inch Bloom Time August, September, October Foliage Leaf. Dark green with burgundy tips, which turn bright red in fall. Fall Interest Red Foliage Fruit/Berry/Seed Red, Interesting Fruit. Seed heads look like turkey feet. Plant type Grass Habit and Form Upright/Vase-shaped, Clumping Height 4-8 feet Spread 2-4 feet Water Requirements: Drought tolerant, Less than average moisture, Average moisture Light Requirements: Full Sun Soil Conditions: Adaptable, Low fertility, Well-drained, Moderately Fertile Horticultural Uses Specimen, Will naturalize (although we haven't seen this in the border)
