Val EastonMarty Wingate, a well-known Seattle writer, speaker and Master Gardener, brings her considerable knowledge of international and Northwest gardens to our annual meeting and program on September 19th.   For many years, Marty's weekly column appeared in the Seattle PI , and as a radio personality, she can be heard every Tuesday, on the “Weekday” gardening panel on KUOW (94.9 FM).  She holds a master’s degree in urban horticulture from the University of Washington.

In addition to numerous special publications, Marty has authored the popular books Big Ideas for NW Small Gardens, The Bellevue Botanical Garden: Celebrating 15 Years, and The Big Book of NW Perennials.   Her latest book, Buffers and Barriers, Hedges and Screens, is currently in the works and will be published next spring by Timber Press.  In January, her articles appeared in Seattle Homes & Lifestyles and Landscape Architecture.  Other national publications include Fine Gardening, The American Gardener and Country Gardens.

In her spare time, Marty organizes and leads garden tours to destinations in North America, England and Scotland. Her 2010 summer tour was the gardens of Ireland.  Her presentation, “Bring It Home:  Unpack those ideas from garden travels and use them at home," will focus on how gardeners can relate experiences on their own journeys to practical ideas on the home front.
